Best of What's Around

I'm sick! :(

This week my roommate came down with some horrible illness. He was coughing and hacking all week. I tried my best to stay clear of him and well...stay well. However, Saturday morning I woke up with the beginning symptoms of a cold and have been feeling miserable ever since. It's really unfortunate because this week is crunch time. Papers are due, accounting and grammar tests, etc. We'll hope I get well soon. I bought some ZyCam and Nyquil so hopefully it'll be over soon!

I wasn't able to go into a store (shabby/dressed up) per the assignment due to a busy schedule during the week and being sick on the weekend. I do understand how people treat you differently based on your appearance and dress though. It makes sense. People are judgemental. It's our nature.

This weekend the air has been extremely dirty. I remember on Friday, not being able to see the mountains because of all the dirt, smog etc. in the air. I wonder if the dirty air had something to do with my cold.

Time for a nap.

가끔은 사랑이란 갈비처럼 달콤한다

Sometimes, love is sweet like Korean marinated short ribs.

This was technically a short week because of Memorial Day, however it seemed longer than a normal week to me for some reason. Our Mcom group spent a considerable amount of time together planning and preparing for our big project. I was impressed by each of their diligent efforts. Good job team!

Damien Rice is awesome. This year I went to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City and had the opportunity to be 15 feet away from him and hear a private set. Unfortunately the girl I went with (as friends) had to be home at the time the performance started and I missed out big time! Nothing against her, but I think that inviting her to come with me is one of my biggest regrets since moving to Provo.

It's 11:52 on Sunday evening. The weather is absolutely perfect. I bought some allergy medicine (Claritin) this week and since then, haven't had any problems whatsoever. Gotta love modern medicine. If I could bring any medicine back to medieval times it would probably be either Viagra or NyQuil.

Who's the boss?
Tony Danza is the boss!
Show some respect!

I would love to have heard the pitch for that show to the network execs. I'm sure it went something like this, "We've got an idea for a great new show. He's a tough guy from Brooklyn who played in the major leagues and then got cut from the team and becomes ....umm..becomes a house keeper in Connecticut!"

Wow...gotta love the '80's.

Sunspots in the House of the Late Scapegoat

This week went by REALLY fast. I can't believe it's basically June already.

So ShaynE asked us to buy somebody a Coke this week and then write about it. So here's my story. On Friday I walked into a bar. It wasn't smoke filled, which was refreshing. The A/C was on because it was a warm day. I took a seat at the bar and the bartender asked, "What's your poison?" I said, "Coke" in disbelief he repeated, "Coke?" "Yeah, coke", I said.
He fills a tall glass full of Coke and places it in front of me. Sitting next to me was a beautiful blond haired woman. I introduced myself to her and she told me her name was Marina. She was a ballet dancer from Bulgaria. I asked her if I could buy her a drink and she smiled and said, "Sure." So I bought her a Coke. We sat there for about an hour, emptying our glasses, and talked. We talked about Sri Lanka, the joys of life and Nebula-namely the Orion Nebula. She gave me her number and I told her I'd call her in a week. She giggled and said something in her native tongue.
I smiled back and walked out of the bar, got in my car and drove home.

And that's all from Lake Woebegone, where all the women are strong, all the men are handsome and all the children are...above average.

Hands in Pockets

The Pho was mediocre and the date was a reminder of the importance of a good sense of humor. :) This last week was a little stressful. Preparing for the Accounting 210 test and completing all of my Mcom 320 assignments took some true time management skills! Fortunately, everything ended well.

I'm watching the bizarre foods show on Travel Channel. This guys is crazy! In the episode I am currently watching, the host is in Ethiopia. He just finished eating some nasty cow gut concoction. It makes me wonder how he doesn't get seriously ill.

I just got off the phone with Allyson. She's my friend from Portland. I think she's a socialist. However, she's a good cook and fun to talk to. We used to talk a lot until she met her boyfriend James. I understand, it's no big deal.

Ok, so this week wasn't very eventful and this may be the lamest entry yet, I don't know. Anyway, I am hungry and it is almost 8:30. I'm gonna go eat something and then go to ward prayer. The Sunday school president just called and told me he has my teaching manuals! I get to teach next week.

Bye!

Saw an Angel Fly Away

Another week comes to an end. How many weeks is Spring term anyway? So far Mcom has been interesting! As far as Accounting 210 is concerned, I finally had a breakthrough in my understanding of the Statement of Cash Flows. This is good considering I have a test on Wednesday. Last week the stock market soared! The 2 stocks I purchased did really well until about Wednesday. Alot of investors decided to sell their stocks in an attempt to lock in their short gains and stock prices went down. They made a recovery on Friday but due to a bad earning report I decided to sell USU. GNA remains strong. Tomorrow I am buying Citigroup. I actually bought this stock back in the middle of March but regrettably sold it about a month ago. I think it will be a good long term investment considering it is currently extremely undervalued. Ok this stock talk is boring..I understand.
My roommates and I went to see Star Trek on Saturday. It was a decent movie. Not my favorite, but entertaining. I thought some of the acting was a little overdone and sappy. I watched another movie Saturday evening with some other friends. It was called Monsoon wedding. It takes place in India and yes...it's about a wedding. I liked the colors! However, not as good of a movie as Slumdog Millionaire. Bollywood is definitely improving.
Does anyone know how to convert .flac files to mp3? I have some audio files I can't listen to because I can't figure how to play them! That is definitely frustrating. I met a girl who told me about a good Pho restaurant. We are going out on a date on Friday. I'm hoping it's good. I miss Portland.

I Pagliacci

Where can I get some good Pho?! Sometimes I get a craving for some good Pho, unfortunately Pho restaurants are officially underrepresented here in Provo. I heard there is a good one near Salt Lake, but I haven't found it. What I did find this week was the Provo Shooting Range! That was pretty fun. Luckily the weather cleared up long enough to enjoy a few hours of shooting.
So, I'm really excited for the week. Last Friday I purchased a couple of new stocks. GNA and USU. GNA is a steel company and USU is a global energy supplier (low enriched uranium). They will both be reporting their quarterly earnings this week and I have high hopes of eating steak this weekend as a result of a successful Bull rally.
I went to church today. Priesthood was really good but Fast and Testimony meeting was kind of strange. This guy got up and said, "The happiest times of my life were spent in the arms of another man's wife", of course the whole ward was shocked and when he told us the woman was his mother we were a little bit relieved but not really..yeah definitely strange.
A few days ago I watched a short film entitled, "Dr. Horrible's Sing along Blog". It wasn't the first time I'd seen it but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a sense of humor.
So tomorrow is the start of a new week. Pretty exciting. So I've been pondering something lately. As of recent it has been my belief that failure can be the secret to success. Failure is ultimately success if motivation and focus are maintained. However, my view of this has turned somewhat pessimistic. The reason being that sometimes you only get one shot. If you fail there is no going back, focus cannot be maintained due to the reality that results from certain failure.
